Even though it’s legitimately a massive inconvenience to myself and my employer, what would they actually try to pull if I just decided not to show up. I realize fines and jail time as well as a misdemeanor are on the table, but is that really even likely?

I sent an excuse in with my questionnaire, is a postponement different?

No, it was my county court. It is very rare to get summoned to federal court. I’m guessing the rules are the same. I could be wrong, if I am, I’m sorry to get your hopes up. But look into it, i bet there is a postponement option.
