Would be great if pic8 would allow for some mechanism to choose an alternative image host for a given image. All too often, an image host goes fucky... now half of the links on Poal are dead for a large group of users. But remember, that's our fault, because we don't manually set up our own routers and DNS settings... not the concept of force-directing everyone to a half-broken image host with no alternative itself.
If I released some shit like that at my job, first the poor telephone guy is going to be swamped with calls, then I would be fired on the spot.

An alpha version that gets treated and used like a v1.0. Sorry, but not that sorry if I'm offending someone out there. Just the thought of half the links on Poal being broken again starts making me angry.

I think you're full of shit. Don't believe for one second that when you encounter a series of broken links, that you're just like "oh.. that's nice..." Get off your high-horse and act like a human.
The question is whether or not a message like "This site can’t be reached. qu.ax took too long to respond." is truly a dead link or a temporary condition. That message doesn't help determine the true nature of the issue so it doesn't help that there is a means to report a dead link.
Also, what good is reporting dead links if the content isn't recoverable?
