Fair. But technology also fails suddenly too…. Fault tolerance is an amazing thing when it’s a zero chance of your survival if some trace on a circuit board frys or some line of software in just the right conditions says to cut all power. I use to code, and build things. A truly sorted out failure proof vehicle doesn’t exist. The closest ones are crazy expensive.
Watch this video, tell me you don’t want one. https://www.pilotmix.com/g1sa-genesis-gyrocopter
As a pilot I don't want one. They have a terrible safety record. And wind gusts can cause rotor stall. Which stalls the aircraft. Once one side stalls recovery is basically impossible, especially as they are generally flown low to the ground and accidents are most likely during takeoff and landing. Which is why they have a terrible safety record.
Additionally, performance is generally pretty terrible compared with fixed wing aircraft. The primary reason we don't have fast, affordable, safe, modern aircraft is because of the FAA and regulatory capture. Which 2x-4x increases costs.
Without the FAA preventing free market economics you would be able to purchase a 180knt aircraft for around 80k-100k, with payments over 15-20 years. Basically if you can afford to buy a new bass boat you could afford a plane. But with much better long term value held in the asset.
Fair enough, you clearly have deeper knowledge on the subject, thank you for the explanation.
WOW holy cow! That thing is awesome. What a landing, too! Ok that absolutely deserves a spot in the poll. I'd test drive it. However there is a limit to how many items can be listed in a Poal Poll so I can't add it in. Thank you for being an advocate for the gyrocopter!
