We used to have a word for excessively to the point of being emotionally off 'happy'. Now we don't have a word for that anymore, it just means homosexual. I don't see any reason to not have this word anymore, seems like a good word. What's ironic is you can't be 'overly happy' anymore without people thinking you're homosexual. Seems that this usurping was actually the beginning of 1984 double think style controlling.

Wouldn't you think people being 'overly happy' to the point of not making sense, might be good for a healthy society with cohesiveness?

It's the only use of the word that way that I could find before the 1970's.

It's an odd outlier.

Maybe it just wasn't used much publicly. Way back in that era there was a lot of things that weren't allowed to be said or shown in motion pictures and later, tv. It really loosened up in the '70's.
