I was discussing motivations and he was blindly focused on an assumed outcome. It was a derail and not very constructive imo. It's useful if you can puzzle out why people are doing things because then you can influence those around you.
Not very useful to just sit around and complain that the deck is stacked against you. It makes you feel powerless and takes away your will to do anything about it.
