I'm not going to say their programming isn't ingrained to the bones of their empty skulls, it is, though I would say that FauXi's (lol) dog torture was an effective way to hit them.
I saw some posts where they were saying "What's the damage control angle on this? It looks really bad." without any self-awareness. In the thread they were saying how they "must protect our medical authorities, but this is just awful all around..." etc.

That's the problem though. They are hit 24 hours 7 days a week with they are on the right side of history. That they are on the side of science. They are quite literally the Borg, Empire or Replicators (pick your sci-fi series), that's how strong their echo chamber of group think has become because of censorship and fact checking. I don't think we can break that with normal means.
