Another thought I've had is that someone will at least attempt to kill Kyle once he is found not guilty.

As someone said they have a weak as fuck case.

However, they also know that he’ll be convicted because it a political case and the Judge and Jury are contaminated. If not by politics, at least their own fear of lefties.

So why would they bother to build a strong case?
