I just saw my dentist and apparently your teeth are only supposed to touch when swallowing. This is odd and new to me. I've always been taught to keep a closed jaw to prevent losing teeth if anything hits your jaw, fist or otherwise.

After a car wreck years ago, my teeth clenched so hard I had to have botox injected into my jaw to unlock them.
