I thought it was very well done. I am a huge dune fan of both the books and the original movie. They stayed true to both, somehow. Yes there are niggers and camel jockeys in it but it isn't shoehorned in. It makes sense in the universe. Fremen is a contraction of free men. The fremen are made up of the people who escape into the desert. They would be a hodgepodge. And people get brown in the desert especially over generations it's evolution.
My biggest gripe is the ending. They set it up to be a trilogy of the first two books(as it should be there is a lot of story to go over) without being signed up for a three movie deal. So that means they may never finish it. Or it will take forever.
Is it perfect? No. But it is good, and worth watching. It shows the struggle of an honorable person with the deceit of dishonorable men, and the downfall of what happens when you trust too willingly or don't strike first. The emperor is a space jew.

The book doesn't really ever specify whiteness or blackness that's something you perceive because of the original movie. And I'm pretty sure 70% of the people on the screen where white.
