I used to have a Facebook account but I haven’t logged in in over eight years. I no longer have the email address or phone number associated with the account and, although I remember the password, it is making me verify with the old email or phone number. I have tried to find a way to contact Facebook, but I always hit dead ends. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can reclaim this account? My life is much different than it was eight years ago and I would like to deactivate it to prevent future employers or associates from seeing this account and getting the wrong impression.

It's not a bad idea to curate your online presence. Having a sanitized placeholder is desirable over no presence.

There should be a "recover this account" option on the profile page itself. Assuming you tried that: create a new account. Then report the old account as a duplicate. FB support is quicker on that. They should be able to merge or delete the accounts. If all else fails you can present the newer account to interested parties instead. If you can afford a lawyer they can invoke a writ to force FB to take it down.
