Why not just weld up a frame and setup a bearing block and a belt with a pully on the new bearing block and a pully on the motors crank shaft so you can mount the engine right side up.
"Right side up" in this case, is actually upside-down according to the people who designed the motor, so there's problems with crap getting into the electrics and weird things getting loose. My welding skills are rudimentary at best, but I see your point. Might be a good challenge to try this with a regular gas engine. I also have an old jointer motor this might work very well with. Thx for the idea.
