I know of several men that have been granted full custody and whose exes have been court ordered to pay support, alas none have ever received a payment. The types of women that fail to maintain custody, usually cannot maintain employment and often find other men to pay their way through life. Best of luck.

Yep. My ex lost custody after she was found to be driving drunk with my kids in the car. It's funny that that's what it took for me to get them finally. Not the fact she took them from me for 10 months while not allowing me to see them. It wasn't the drugs in the house or the guy she was with dealing drugs in front of my kids. Herion and coke was the drugs of choice not that pussu weed shit. Nope. None of that. She has to pay child support but I've never seen a dime. The system is so screwed up that she still gets the kids for holidays and spring break which pisses me odd because I don't get to have fun times on vacation with my kids because she gets them when they are on school breaks. But at least I have them.

Whoever has custody gets support. I had 2 friends back in the Army that the ex wife not only was on the hook for child support but during the divorce, because they made more money than them, had to pay spousal support.

Apparently, she wanted total degenerate freedom so badly she apparently had no protest in being ordered to pay child support. It's just him and his kid now.
Losing your mother to accident or illness is one thing. Being abandoned by your mother at a young age where you're very conscious about exactly what happened must be a whole other world of fucked up I wouldn't know about.

Generally, you pay for the time you are not actively supporting the child.
Example; if each parent has 50/50, then neither parent pays child support.
If one parent has 75% and the other has 25% custody, then the parent with 25% pays for 25% of the time they are not with the child.
If a parent has 100% custody, the other parent pays for 100% of the time.
It's hard to get a parent to have 0% custody. Generally, this is only in cases of abuse.
