I'll play when the payout equals the risk. Your chance of winning is 1:252,000,000 A ticket is $2 So the cash payout has to exceed $500m for me to jump in.

Is it all or nothing with powerball? Can you not win secondary prizes? You need to add up all the payouts with the odds of winning each to find the true value of the ticket.
