You heard wrong then because I've made it myself a few times. Honestly it just tases like plain bread but if done properly is very crunchy.

The water in the dough forms the texture, if you can call it that, as it evaporates so it isn't like a solid glass block but id does break of in rocks if it's properly dry. If it isn't properly dried out it becomes almost like vulcanised rubber.

Feels like you're eatin rocks though as you can feel it settle at the bottom of your belly. The trick is to let the saliva in your mouth do most of the work and avoid it or mix it with sugar to soften if you have had problems with your teeth beforehand. The starch in the flour does seem to caramelize a tad bit though so it isn't as unforgiving as raw flour.

Basicly it's the cheapest way to make rations however so don't knock it till you've tried it. You can buy it as pilot bread too if you just want to try it.
