I think that's the one, thanks. Gonna save it this time.
I remember someone pointing out that you'd boil the ramen noodles and I pointed out that you wouldn't have easy access to boiling water if you're resorting to a DIY MRE.

Might be better off learning from this guy. He has a ton of info on preserving food and travel rations.
Gonna give that a look, thanks.
http://pacnorwild.blogspot.com/2012/06/diy-mre.html ehh? ive not seen what your referencing but i found this on jewgle.
your best bet is starting a thread on /k/ and asking. I've seen the meme you're talking about and it does look miles above shit you buy for the same price or more.
You can make hard tack that has a ton of calories for the space it takes up in any oven as well while you're at it.
I hear it taste like shit.
You heard wrong then because I've made it myself a few times. Honestly it just tases like plain bread but if done properly is very crunchy.
The water in the dough forms the texture, if you can call it that, as it evaporates so it isn't like a solid glass block but id does break of in rocks if it's properly dry. If it isn't properly dried out it becomes almost like vulcanised rubber.
Feels like you're eatin rocks though as you can feel it settle at the bottom of your belly. The trick is to let the saliva in your mouth do most of the work and avoid it or mix it with sugar to soften if you have had problems with your teeth beforehand. The starch in the flour does seem to caramelize a tad bit though so it isn't as unforgiving as raw flour.
Basicly it's the cheapest way to make rations however so don't knock it till you've tried it. You can buy it as pilot bread too if you just want to try it.
