Not always
Yes, ALWAYS.
A EDC makes tactical compromises in favor of every day convenience. Anything practical enough to carry every day is not optimal for combat.
I'm sure there is someone out there that carries a K-Bar every day but Just because someone carries a tactical knife every day does not make that knife a 'EDC knife'.
EDC knife is as real a category as "assault weapon".
Imma carry my kabar around everywhere and look like a douche today, just for spite.

Yes the classification is subjective in that everyone's opinion on what makes a knife practical to carry every day is different... but the classification is hardly a made up buzzword with no meaning. I stand by my distinction. Anything practical enough to carry every day is not optimal for combat. An edc optimizes for practicality and tries to maximize availability - It is always on you. A tactical knife optimizes for combat. They are very different.
I was taking the piss friend.
Still tempted to walk into the job interview later with an 8 incher hanging from my belt. I ain't chad enough to get away with it though.
