He's in remission, but the cancer does not give me the warm and fluffies. He was able to beat out the original prognosis of 1 year by 5 years now. However I would think such cancers, when they come back, become death sentences? Also how rapidly can a cancer come back if his diet is composed of chinese takeout and alcohol?

Look into Rick Simpson

Look into mushrooms and cancer, Chaga and Turkeytail mushrooms have been shown to have anti cancer effects, though I believe they are really just super healthy for your immune system which does kill cancer cells when healthy!

Get him off the alcohol!

Easier said than done, the guy drinks daily now. My theory is he simply stopped caring about his life, content to live in a hole and wallow in misery for the rest of his days
