Long story short, wtf to do. Realize I don’t have any skills, A job that pays well but I dread. Want to move closer to wife’s family and start having kids but stuck in a renting loop, too much debts, one income. Idk what to do at this point. What skills could I possibly learn? Computer stuff? Hands on? How tf am I supposed to work full time pay down debt and try and get some land closer to family? Constant anxiety regarding my town getting worse and trashier. Idk just ranting.

We are trying to have children right now actually. I’d wager all the toxins in modern life is making that more difficult. Also why we want to live closer to family so we can have help and help them. Get some land and all that good stuff.

Don't have kids right now, you're not in the right place.

She needs to work full time. If you have any mechanical mindset at all, get yourself into a trade - electrical, plumbing, carpentry. One of those.

If you're not mechanically minded but you're pretty smart, do the coding route.

Failing all that, do a short course to get your ticket for excavators and other plant machinery then do civil construction.

The dirty little secret about IT work is it's about how fast you can learn. If you don't feel up for studying a ton in your off time I'd go air force and earn money while you pursue a skill set thru them. They raised the age for enlisted to something crazy like 38 iirc. Won't make you rich but might add stability and time to figure shit out. IDK your situation though.

I chose airforce for a reason. It's less dangerous than roofing and there is very little social net or support structure for white men in America. You don't wanna drone kids... then don't drone kids...

I'll concede I don't know his life, but if ever there was a good time to enlist it's prob right after the longest war in US history.

Moving closer to family cause older I get more I realize that is what matters most. Military would move me away. If I was younger maybe. Also looking for brotherhood. Which I thought my current job would have but it is worse than high school cliques.

learn stuff you want to do online

udacity and sites like it have tons of courses on most subjects

if you like computers, learn something in that field, you can make decent money if you do it right

Sounds like your job doesn't pay well.

Lots of places are hiring right now and are having trouble finding people with skills.

Entry level non-skilled jobs in a field you're interested in pursuing might be the key for you.

For example "oil techs" or "Tire tech" at an auto shop. "Deburr hand" in a machining shop. "Apprentice X" for electricians or plumbers or HVAC. The jobs are out there. Some of them might even pay more than what you're making now. Some might even be closer to your wives family.

Yeah that is a good idea. I have also thought about asking local electricians or plumbers or what not if I can follow around on a Saturday w/o pay to learn. My ultimate goal is to be as self sufficient and off grid as possible. Kind of a jack of all trades thing.

You would probably have a better time applying for apprenticeship positions. People standing around asking questions or getting in the way tend to piss skilled workers off.

I haven't looked too far into this but I've been considering apprenticing as an electrician if things finally go sideways in my field. That and working for myself.
