I only posted once there when they started to wish them well. I don;t really know what it's like. When did they change the name?
It's a long complicated story, but summed up he only stole the Voat label to attract a userbase. Then he completely flipped on the free speech platform and started trolling users, even going so far as telling them to delete their accounts and kill themselves. Upon further agitation there were users that seemed to be exempt from all his newly oppressive rules (he banned SBBH and created a sub called v/ReportSpammersAndSBBH) all the way up to tolerating child exploitation. He would project any objectors as the "real pedophiles" and ban them. There's a core group of people that staunchly defend "system" aka The_Venerable from real Voat who are illustrated defending child pornography. Venerable came under public scrutiny over using the Voat label and going completely against the freedom of speech it stood for, and also for refusing to adopt it's old policies to enable the "immune system" preventing the admins from having to intervene in every squabble. He abandoned the label shortly after (once he had a nice userbase set up). It was basically a bait and switch that protects a pedophile ring. That's the TL;DR.

The rules regarding porn is the same as on old voat, porn gets heavily downvoted and is a non-issue. We had multiple waves of "ban porn or we'll leave/won't stop complaining", old voat had it too, it is only a leftist tool to gain foothold and set precedence for more rules.
