A VSD is the most common heart defect that is normally diagnosed after birth, and it often requires surgery depending on the size. I’m a concerned parent with a 6 month old daughter who was born prematurely and diagnosed with a VSD. I’ve lost all trust in the medical community over the last few years, and I’m scared to put my little girl through this surgery, especially having read the potential “side effects”; one being death. I don’t know where to begin with research or what to do. The size of the hole in her heart is “moderate” and they don’t believe it’ll close up on its own. This is a 20k surgery, and given the recent medical malpractice surrounding covid, I do not want to put my daughter through this. I don’t want to believe they’re pushing it on us because of the price tag. I’ve already lost my grandma to the vaccine a few months ago, and I don’t want to lose my baby girl due to selfishness, greed and corruption.

Let me start out by saying I don't have many nice things to say about the healthcare industry. It is corrupt, the people are mostly inept and really don't care whether you live or die. My baby has her own issues and we have had a lot of Dr. visits over the last few months. For the most part, the people I have encountered at the children's hospital really take their jobs seriously. They work in healthcare because they want to do the work, not just because of some manufactured nursing shortage. Most of the regular hospital nurses are completely useless. They would be working in a factory if there were any left, but instead they scrape their way through a nursing program and get a job as a warm body at some crap hospital. But people who specialize in pediatrics generally really like kids and want to help them. I don't think your doctor would recommend a surgery for a 6 month old baby without solid reasoning. Given the risks of doing a surgery on such a small child they wouldn't do it if the benefits didn't outweigh the risks. No pediatric surgeon or nurse wants to be the one responsible for a baby's death. I assume you are going to a children's hospital. If you aren't, you really should. I know it is scary to put your baby through this sort of thing but you need to consider what kind of life she will have without the surgery. Even if she lives, she might always be frail and unable to keep up with the other kids. That's not fair to her when there is treatment available. Whatever you decide, I hope your little baby comes out ok.
