A VSD is the most common heart defect that is normally diagnosed after birth, and it often requires surgery depending on the size. I’m a concerned parent with a 6 month old daughter who was born prematurely and diagnosed with a VSD. I’ve lost all trust in the medical community over the last few years, and I’m scared to put my little girl through this surgery, especially having read the potential “side effects”; one being death. I don’t know where to begin with research or what to do. The size of the hole in her heart is “moderate” and they don’t believe it’ll close up on its own. This is a 20k surgery, and given the recent medical malpractice surrounding covid, I do not want to put my daughter through this. I don’t want to believe they’re pushing it on us because of the price tag. I’ve already lost my grandma to the vaccine a few months ago, and I don’t want to lose my baby girl due to selfishness, greed and corruption.

Somewhat bafflingly in the US the rarer your condition is the better care you get. Wanna die of heart disease and diabetes? They'll basically stick you in a hallway and let you do that with 50,000 other people. Got a cancer that only 9 people on Earth have? You will be flown to the 1 guy in the world who knows how to treat it and is a professor at some med school.
