I just sold a newer car and am going back to a mediocre beater. The used market is hot, so you'll get top dollar for your car but you'll pay top dollar too.
Yeah this is really changing my thinking. The car market is so fucked up Carfax gave me a price to buy back my truck with 10k miles on it that is thousands more than I paid new.
I wanted to pick up a second vehicle like a truck from the 70s with no chips and readily available parts. I don't have to travel far anymore so now I'm thinking of just ditching the new truck for a profit and getting something classic and cool.
prices are nuts for trucks right now, it is hard for me to find one in my area for under $8k. Regardless of age and as long at is running.
True and dealing with craigslisters is not something I miss.
It is crazy. My 14 year old, 223,000 mile compact that's had a few run-ins with deer and people turning in front of me and has all the problems an old car has, has actually increased in value.
It was valued at $11 a few years ago, now the online estimators are saying $1200.
They offered $5k more from the price I paid new. That's after driving it for over a year. And the same truck on the lot is now $10k more than what I paid.
I lucked out as long as the truck is reliable and doesn't short a chip that is unobtainable. It should be though it has a proven track record.
I have a brand new X5, and spend most of my time driving a 10 year old lifted VW Amarok pickup...
Yeah I often had some fast car but drove around in a little Mazda pickup. I sold it for what I paid for it years later and still regret it.
