My car insurance is getting jacked up. I emailed a rep (actually more like 5 since every response is a different person) and can't get my rate back down. They are raising rates everywhere for no reason that they will tell me. They don't even have the correct vehicle info but keep saying it can't be changed because it's tied to the vin.

Anyway I had an idea. I change my deductibles to the max, $2000. It'll save me a lot of money. Then if I ever have a claim I can just grab my phone and change the deductible back to say $250. You can update coverage anywhere on the fly. It probably won't work but why not give it a shot if I need it? Everyone I ask tells me "Nah, they trace you" but on the other hand everything is so backed up, automated and diversity hired I'm starting to think I can get away with it.

It's new so I can't just do the minimum. I miss driving beaters around and not having to give a shit.

I just sold a newer car and am going back to a mediocre beater. The used market is hot, so you'll get top dollar for your car but you'll pay top dollar too.

Yeah this is really changing my thinking. The car market is so fucked up Carfax gave me a price to buy back my truck with 10k miles on it that is thousands more than I paid new.

I wanted to pick up a second vehicle like a truck from the 70s with no chips and readily available parts. I don't have to travel far anymore so now I'm thinking of just ditching the new truck for a profit and getting something classic and cool.

prices are nuts for trucks right now, it is hard for me to find one in my area for under $8k. Regardless of age and as long at is running.

True and dealing with craigslisters is not something I miss.

It is crazy. My 14 year old, 223,000 mile compact that's had a few run-ins with deer and people turning in front of me and has all the problems an old car has, has actually increased in value.

It was valued at $11 a few years ago, now the online estimators are saying $1200.

They offered $5k more from the price I paid new. That's after driving it for over a year. And the same truck on the lot is now $10k more than what I paid.

I lucked out as long as the truck is reliable and doesn't short a chip that is unobtainable. It should be though it has a proven track record.

I have a brand new X5, and spend most of my time driving a 10 year old lifted VW Amarok pickup...

Yeah I often had some fast car but drove around in a little Mazda pickup. I sold it for what I paid for it years later and still regret it.

Well, you can always live somewhere where you don't need this massive expense, as I did before life on the hook. Anything I needed within 1 mile. just walk.

The Us screwed itself being a car centric nation.

I'd prefer to have the ability to go anywhere at anytime and not live on top of other people. That is priceless. If my only choice was public trans I'd be fucked and stuck in place because I'm unvaxxed.

It's not even about the expense it's about jewish insurance raising my rates for no fucking reason. I haven't had a ticket or accident in like 10 years so they are being cunts. Hence me wanting to screw them over with the deductible.

Aww, poor you, victim of the master race. Instead of doing something, as I did, here you are, whining.

You made your choice, enjoy the consequences you knew about. While you are landlocked and starved, I'll be moving goods between islands, good luck!

I have that ability to go anywhere, you don't. You're stuck with North America. Roads need maintenance, the sea does not

I can't buy a boat? Lol really that's your argument?

There is a long wait after you change your deductible down before it takes effect.

[–] 0 pt

U have to switch to get a better rate. Although beware if you do it enough they will ban you from all

[–] 0 pt

Well it turns out I'm not seeing any better rates from the other companies. I've had the same one for over 20 years so I have all the extra discounts.

[–] 0 pt

Huh idk switch your house/property too. Or. You're already getting a good rate if no one else is lower. They're just catching you up. You also could have moved into a different risk category for whatever reason

[–] 0 pt

They told me they it had nothing to do with me; they are raising rates for my entire state. Maybe to pay for incoming illegals and Afghans who will drive around uninsured. Or migrating Dems. Everyone here drives trucks 5mph under the speed limit.

I'm just going to bump up my deductible, negates the difference and then some. If I get in an accident I will put it back to $250 and see if I can get away with it.

Your rates went up because they're no longer allowed to base a part of it on your consumer credit score because it was racist against minorities
