A vice grip is kinda straight and metal I don't want to bend, break, or have it pop out of place when I apply pressure.

Does such a tool specifically to hold pipe exist if so what is it called?

Thanks!

You just need a clamp that has a v shape instead of being flat. It gives 4 points of contact and is super stable. There are vise grips made this way but an actual vise is best. You could maybe use a set of adjustable pliers and tape the handles together as tight as possible. I don't know how sturdy you need it.

You got it. I've use that clamp to thread metal pipe more times than I can count. Good luck to you and your project.
