Took my gal with me to the courthouse in Spartanburg for a police background check needed for a trucking job. Got it and asked the receptionist if people still get married in Courthouses. Was told yeah. Told her to marry us right now. Receptionist looked at my gal and said, "Did he even propose to you?" Gal replied nope. "Ring?" Nope. "Witnesses?" My gal laughed.
Got married for the $35 license fee. Went to a pawn shop and she picked out a used silver band for under $10. That was 25 years ago. The money we could have spent on a fancy wedding went to buying our home for cash. She likes the place.
