First I've heard of this but a quick search and this video title kind of answers the question on it's own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkct2HBpgNY

Also not sure if still the case but just over a year ago Nvidia became my choice because AMD cards were way to high power consumption but that may not be the case anymore. I'm talking 2 or 3 times the consumption of same spec nvidia cards and I was limited since utilities are included in my rent and when 300 watts is listed as power consumption and the nvidia is around a 100 watts running straight out then the purchase is already chosen when looking for a card that does 4k right. Admittedly I was a moron using linux that should have gone Intel with onboard uhd graphics which are far superior in compatibility overall for linux. But this is for graphics upscaling on an image then get a copy of GIMP and then GMIC plugin also free and use the upscale and repair area filters to get amazing results rivaling photoshops paid plugins. Most do 4k but your questions seems more like 8k related. Also if for video make sure the FPS are right. My nvidia 1650 does 4k but only at 30 FPS so there is that for consideration also.

Good luck.

ah that was interesting thanks

Your welcome, I just updated my comment when I saw mail link here blinking, check the updated original post with my personal thoughts added, not sure but might make a difference or give you another angle to add to card specs you might require or just think about.

amd works 100x better on linux than nvidia, and the 3000 series are also power whores.

not sure why nvidia hate randoms making drivers but yeh, nvidia drivers are ass on linux.

Agreed, my cheap Dell was just as fast with onboard video but only fullhd so I had to get a new computer to go 4k with the ram and cpu soldiered in on Dells and thier under sized PS and no cables for extra drives but it was $600 and ran beautiful for 3 years, now in a closet for the moment as a backup in case of current system breakdown.
