Like all the random and new, never before heard of and would otherwise be worrisome symptoms.
The taste/smell one was CHOSEN because it's not and never was uncommon to randomly experience taste / smell partial or full loss for a short period of time due to many various reasons.

Much longer than Covid has existed. And a quick look at my history will tell you what I actually think of covid.

Eh, I didn’t write down the date I joined. My account page has said “Joined 2y ago” for long enough that I assumed it was close to three years. Irrelevant, though, because that’s still well before any Covid news cycle was happening.

I don't think it'll change how you feel about it, but I also have lost my taste and smell. My husband and two sons didn't lose theirs, but my daughter did. We all got it at the same time about three weeks ago. My daughter and I were the sickest out of all of us as well.
Only people I know who are facing losing their jobs are nurses, and they pushed the mandate back from August 15 to September 15. I told both of them to make them fire them and not to quit but still look for other job opportunities.
Edited to add that I never had any of us tested, so who knows if it would've been positive. I've just never completely lost my ability to smell/taste after I was well from anything in my nearly 40 years.
