From personal experience, get a good used skid steer, with some extra weight in the back. A tractor can often be limited, whereas you can get just about any kind of attachment for a skidsteer, and it will get around in areas that a tractor cries in.
do your homework, and make sure you understand the dealers obligations/expertise. also, be prepared to learn alot about machinery. when i first started having mechanical issues(DEF sensor, or other faggotry, it ran me 900 just to get a mechanic out here).
i wouldnt use anything else when it comes to homesteading.
Look like I'm getting a skid steer excavator? 35 hp to 45 probably diesel. Can move dirt. Dig holes and trenches and pull lawn mower and other farm type tools... I have 45 days to research and might be renting the 5 acres for a. Couple months as well while I finish some other projects
