Had both, don't have a preference.

Really? I don't feel in control when I'm driving an automatic.

[–] 2 pts

Yes really. Also used to have a 4-speed VW beetle (vintage), that was fun. But so are the automatics I have owned; also there are the shift-on-command manual-mode automatics

I need a clutch to feel normal while driving. The stiffer the better.

Have had several of both over the years. Once I preferred stick ... now I'd rather drive an automatic. My good car has the shift on command thing noted by germanshepard ... though I rarely, if ever use it. Maybe once or twice in snow/ice conditions.

Give in the to manual side, you know you want too.

I did my manual drive time with a bunch of English roadsters and a Mustang or two. Now I just prefer to put it in drive and enjoy the scenery. LOL

You know you miss the feeling of hitting 6000 rpms and dropping it into second and hearing the tires chirp just a little.

I've only ever driven automatic. My next car will be a manual, though.

[–] 1 pt

Do you already know how to drive one or will you be learning?

[–] 1 pt

I'll be learning. Used to drive old ass farm tractors with very touchy manuals, though, so I'm confident I'll pick it up quickly. Next car will most like be a beater, as well, so I won't be worried about tearing it up while I learn.

Here is the best advice I can give you, its the same that was given to me when I learned at 13 years old. When you let the clutch out for the first time, its going to be a lot like your first time going into a women, you go real slow or its going to be over real fast.

Automatic FTW

Manual is fun if you are in areas with little traffic or not too hilly. But traffiic and especially traffic in hilly areas with manual? Fuck that!

[–] 0 pt

Even in hilly heavily trafficed areas, I will still all day long say manual FTW How are you going to drop it into 4th to do a passing run on the free way?

[–] 0 pt

All the automatics I've driven have built in overdrive so when you floor it, you go! Not sure if that is the correct term. Not really a car guy. Never had issues passing.

Have had issues of regretting and hating my manual transmission when inching up a hill in bumper to bumper traffic though.

I will concede that manuals are cheaper (and I think easier?) to fix than automatic. But automatic still worth it IMO.

But a manual takes skill and finesse. Its the transmission of skill.

Manual FTW.

Automatic.

I'd like to know how to drive standard though

[–] 1 pt

Someday you’ll change your mind I’m sure of it.

[–] 0 pt

When I learn how to drive standard, I'm sure I will. I've heard that some find it to be better than automatic

[–] 0 pt

Automatic.

I'm so sorry.

I don't like having to move a stick every several seconds.

[–] 0 pt

several seconds?!?! I think you might be doing it wrong.
