Because when it's actually applied as the supreme law of the land, arbitrary "killed or thrown into prison by the government" can't happen. Our Bill of Rights and Constitutional law only promote discord against Feudalistic and Totalitarian government. We're dealing with a combo of both real time - hence the present-day belief by our compliant modern serfs that the US Constitution somehow promotes conflict. They just want their allotment of crumbs and to not worry about scary shit like freedom or enlightened thought.
