When you start getting older, you realise many of the lesser injuries you got when you were young are actually lifelong injuries. Every sporting strain and playful mishap comes back as arthritis, joint pain, bulged discs etc etc, and causses life-changing pain for the greater duration of life.
Broke my right hand and knuckles so many times I can't make a proper fist anymore. If I stretch my hands, my left one looks normal, but the right is this lumpy mass of skin with a ridge in the middle of it.
Had a house fire I had to run into a few times. Ended up burning the top of my head and have a permanent bald spot from it. I kind of look like I had bad acne as a kid now too.
Busted my right knee up to where the cartilage is basically gone, so that likes to buckle underneath me sometimes and just hurts all the damned time.
Damn dude, you remind me of an NPC in Fallout 2.
Dude your fucked up! Ive done that to my left but before I learned to make a proper fist. Burning house twice?
I just got into a lot of stupid fights when I was younger, and my early 20s were bad. Lots of dead friends and disappointment in life led to some pretty ugly times. Things were kind of on an upswing I guess, or if nothing else I had stopped caring about shit so much.
About 6 years ago now, we had an electrical fire while we were sleeping. When I woke up, my first thought was I finally stroked out because I couldn't see shit. Eventually I realized it was smoke. I found the fire but by that time the extinguisher wasn't doing shit.
My sister and niece were living with me at the time along with a few cats, a dog, and my sister's dumbass lizard. I got my sister up but she was so out of it she didn't really grasp what was going on. I had to hurry her out of there because we were going to end up getting cut off from the rest of the house. Went back in and grabbed my niece and ran her out too.
The entire house was filling with smoke at that point. The dog at some point had started doing his job and was barking in one of the rooms that had caught. I went in there to grab him but when I did there was this huge fireball billowing in the corner of the room. I remember I just stopped and stared at it. I was stunned by it. It was huge, and bright, and something about the way it moved seemed so unreal. My mind sort of shut off and I remember a distinct feeling of nothing and wondering why I didn't feel stressed when I knew I should. Something caught me on the top of my head and that snapped me back out of it. Got the dog out of there and managed to grab a cat on the way.
Went back in again and heard the other cats panicking, but shit was starting to get really bad. I could feel my feet cooking from the floor, and everywhere I looked was just glowing blackness and indistinct motion.
Breathing was becoming a problem so I hit the deck and started dragging myself across the floor. Pretty sure that's when I was burning my face but it's hard to tell. Heard one of the cats start screaming through it all. Tried to call him but he either couldn't get to me or likely didn't hear me.
I had no idea where the other one was so I started getting out of there. I tried to get up which turned out to be a huge mistake. The heat and the smoke pretty much immediately made me fall. I eventually managed to drag myself back out. Didn't notice how insanely hot it was until I was back outside again. My sister was trying to get to me but anytime she got remotely close she had to turn back. I just kept pulling myself through the dirt until she could reach me.
Fire department showed up but by the time they got there, they weren't trying to put the fire out as much as keep it from spreading. It was so hot a playset I had in the backyard had started burning too. Eventually they got everything put out but the entire house was pretty much gone. I managed to save a laptop with pictures of my dad on it and a couple other things at some point, but that was it really. We found one cat burned and charred to shit. The other had crawled under a bed and was dead but nearly perfect on this one little circle of floor that never burned for some reason. Never found the stupid ass lizard.
Spent a few days in the hospital. Feet and hands were pretty tender, but my face and head definitely hurt. Got bullshitted by the insurance company and the Red Cross gave us a whole $900. Other than that got some clothes and whatnot from random people. Made a minor story on the local news and that was that.
I dreamed of fire after that for a while. If I wasn't dreaming, sometimes I'd wake up and smell smoke, have to run through wherever I was to make sure everything was OK. That faded after a while but my mood was shot. Eventually just kind of numbed out. Went through a bunch of prescriptions but none of that shit worked. Ended up becoming an alcoholic for a few years instead.
That worked out as well as you would imagine. Went through a lot of unemployment and being alone. Eventually I managed to get my shit back together again though. Not really sure how. Nothing had really changed. I guess I just got tired of feeling like shit all the time.
Doing pretty well now, but I still feel different. I still drink sometimes but not how it was.
"Ended up becoming an alcoholic for a few years instead." "being alone" I hope you doing ok now and wish you well man, I can relate a little bit.
I was in a bad fire and got out with very minor injuries and lost everything but the clothes I was wearing. For weeks I was coughing up black soot and it was in my sinuses so all I could smell was soot. Eventually it cleared up and I had no lung damage. I got a settlement (more than yours but much less than I lost) after fighting a company for months. In a way it was kind of a fresh start- I moved to a new city and for a while everything I owned was brand new. Now whenever I smell something burning I get kind of nostalgic for that time.
damn, dude.
Have you tried Biofreeze for temporary relief?
Also there is THC oil thats a topical salve, helps with pain

LOL!
Someone's never had chronic pain.
Yes, my [personal descriptive injury] was left clearly on [this section of my body] so you will easily be able to identify me when you come to arrest me and take me to my mandatory FEMA camp.
All of you replying to this are fucking idiots.
Lower back , from carrying around a giant penis. Every guy wants a huge dick , but it's not all it's cracked up to be
Yes. I was born too late to explore the world and too soon to explore the stars!
Lost my left eye in a car accident.
I was sitting shotgun at night driving with my three friends, driver lost control on a turn and crashed full speed in a tree, low hanging bough pierced the front glass and found my face. Driver and rear left died on the spot.
Well that killed my near miss story. Im sorry dude that must have been terrible.
Holy shit! Did you watch the tree poke ya?
I have psychological trauma since I discovered that I am living mostly among fucking imbeciles and with each passing day my PTSD getting more severe. But as with all injuries, people are getting them by their own fault.
Rode a mechanical bull like a fag. Got ejected because that's what happens. Landed weird and my back hurt. I could barely walk. Couldn't tie my shoes. Couldn't lift my feet to ride my motorcycle. I mostly got over it but my back was never the same again and still goes into enough pain to where I call in sick for work. That was 10 years ago now.
I separated a shoulder in a motorcycle wreck, did it again kickstartin my harley. Again when I got blind sided tackled in a group fight. It doesnt fuck with me as much these days but sometimes Dog almost does it.
I've got weak shoulders. They tend to dislocate if I push them too hard in certain directions (you know what I mean if you've been there -- you can exert as much strain on them as you like in most directions, but if you try it from the wrong angle, out they come). In other respects, my body is built like John Riggins'.
I have a scar that looks kind of like a bullet wound on my leg. It was an abscess I let grow to about ping pong ball size before going to the ER. I went to the hospital, because it was becoming difficult to walk.
All good now though. They fixed me right up.
Took a soccer kick to the head when I was grappling a patron in a bar. Lost sight in my right eye, which is permanent, and it pinched a nerve in my neck that made my left arm atrophy. So I had a muscular right arm, and a bone skinny left arm for a year as I had to built it up after the neck swelling went down. My left shoulder and arm are still smaller, but not so noticeable. It all aches, after all these years.
