Let's suppose that there's such a thing as a soul. Something not explainable by science, something from another reality, another level, another dimension or whatever. We have this vessel, our body, that's a doppelganger of our soul, I'm talking about some Avatar thing, but not driven by human technology. Then, we're here to be tested for whatever reason, and when the vessel is exhausted or broken, our real existence wakes up. The system is kinda backuped or replicated in real time, but when your physical brain is damaged, well, your soul will just experience whatever the body experienced. When this body dies, your soul will evolve by these experiences, maybe by the suffering, maybe by the love received by your family. If your brain is fully operational, then all of your experiences will be aggregated to your soul. I just made up this bullshit, I don't believe in souls or after life or anything else. But as said, it's a matter of faith.
