I did 16 years as a long haul driver trainer. Brought 36 students into the job. I loved it. As for the loneliness factor, many companies let you bring a sweetie along with you. The rest of us get a girl in every state to kill off our downtime.
I made many out-of-the-way stops in places such as Devils Tower and Arches National Monument. I love to swim and got to swim in the Atlantic (3 different states), the Pacific (San Diego and Oregon) the Great Salt Lake, Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, The Mississippi, Missouri, Columbia and Yellowstone Rivers. Man, I loved doing that job.
Diabetes finally pushed me out. Dammit.
