Anyone know how they managed to pull this off in 1983?

The movie is way better than some of the new cgi heavy Hollyweird stuff out there today

It seems almost like they flew those helicopter chase and battles in the city

They actually flew them.

They actually used to wreck cars with people in them for movies as well.

That's part of what made movies cool was you knew skilled stunt drivers were actually risking their lives and were that good.

Now nothing on screen matters because you know it was just a geek who pushed a keyboard button.

When they actually do a stunt or actually use anything real on a movie like a light as a light it is called "a practical"

it was just a geek who pushed a keyboard button.

Actually probably an Indian or Filipino, a lot of those effects studios outsource their workloads overseas and only credit the team that coordinated everything.

Real helicopters flown by real daredevil pilots.

In Blues Brothers, they dropped a pinto from a helicopter from over 1,000 feet (twice) just for 8 seconds of screen time of it in the air.

Movies used to be exciting.

Not unusual prior to CGI. They'd pay the city and film early in the morning.

The guy who flew the helicopter under the low bridge in Terminator 2 actually flew the helicopter under the low bridge.

About the 4 minute mark in this clip https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sbj9n_Q80OE

"The stunt was performed by Charles A. “Chuck” Tamburro, a veteran stunt pilot as well as an actual, you know, veteran (Tamburro learned to fly helicopters in Vietnam). You might not know his name, but you’ve almost certainly seen Tamburro’s work. He’s piloted helicopters in everything from Predator, to Furious 7, to Scarface, to Blade Runner."
