I play a very small role in getting your groceries to your favorite store. I dispatch a few trucks for a company that has a couple hundred refrigerated trucks (reefers) on the road. I'm seeing a breakdown in efficiency caused by a labor shortage that is in turn caused by COVID welfare. Far too many workers are collecting a gov. check instead of going to a job every day.
A normal 2-3 hour unload time for a typical delivery to a distribution warehouse like Kroger, Walmart or any of the others can stretch to 8-20 hours because in some cases they only have one dock worker for every three or four trucks waiting to unload. Truckers are losing money sitting still, and your hot dogs and ice cream don't get to the store on time.
Multiply this by tens of thousands of trucks trying to load and unload every day, and the supply chain starts to break down.
I want more people to make good money. But that convo as to why our wages are suppressed and ass is for another thread. But the corona welfare is the biggest factor in a lot of low/middle low end jobs not being filled. In Michigan unemployment is 362 a week, plus the feds 300. So youre looking at 662 or $16.55 an hour 40 hours full time. If some people were making even up towards $18 or 19 an hour, they are staying home because why not? You make a little less but get to play video games and watch porn all day!! Waahh hooooo!
