Subhuman Slavs were to be cleaned from their lands to make room for Aryan colonization.
IIRC, the initial steps were to rectify wrongs from WWI; return disputed territories to the Reich. Past that, historically Germanic regions would be next. Hitler read the Slavs wrong. They would have gladly overthrown the soviets for some autonomous territory; the Germans could have had a secure flank with just a little more tact.
The idea that Hitler planned to dispossess millions and millions of Slavic people from their ancestral homelands
What about germans ancestral homelands? Germanic people lived all the way into siberia, in their own villages, towns, cities.Sure, Poland had gotten a chunk of german land after ww1, and started purging these lands of germans in brutal ways, forcing germans to flee into the reich but these weren't the only germans who were persecuted, and Hitler saw germans moving into the reich as a danger to his people. They didn't have enough land and "internal colonisation" could not go on forever. Sooner or later, they would be entirely reliant on imported goods for survival, which is tenious at best.
The very numerous germanic race needed room to survive, hence, lebensraum.
History tends to be taught with contemporary maps, borders, and peoples in mind. If egyptians are brown today, they're assumed to have been brown in the past. If Danzig is polish today, then it was polish since the beginning.
Truth is, the germanic peoples were the most successful, most numerous, and least unified white race at the time. Hitlers idea of creating a nation state for germans was a huge threat for this reason.
