You were supposed to stop reading at the point he wrote the interlude and said, "I wanted the series to end here but my publisher made me do this".
I did, loved the series and no regrets about the ending. Song of Susannah is still one of my favorite books.
Also, current Stephen King is a shitter.

Where was that?
Last book when Roland reaches the tower. He interjects a "Dear reader" bit and says he wanted to stop here but his publisher wanted a more concrete ending.
The book was supposed to end with Roland opening the door and you never knowing what's in the tower.
By buddy told me years later what was in the part after I stopped. Glad I ended it where I did.
Didn't he said that he forgot what his plan was after the first book due to drugs and alcohol?
