Approximately 625000 deaths are blamed on the coof. Medicare pays about $40,000 for those who are hospitalized on a ventilator, whether they die or not. Assume all the deaths resulted in a $40k bill to the government. That's about 25 billion dollars. There are a claimed 35,000,000 cases, of which about 200000 resulted in hospitalization (https://gis.cdc.gov/grasp/covidnet/COVID19_5.html). Medicare pays $13K for every hospitalized coof patient. Assume all the cases resulting in hospitalization also resulted in a $13K bill to the government. That's about $2.6 billion. Discounting the obvious overlap, that's about $27.5 billion in total so far. That is absolute chump change compared to the $7.2 trillion or so dollars printed to prop up the economy over lockdown stupidity (https://www.pgpf.org/blog/2021/03/heres-everything-congress-has-done-to-respond-to-the-coronavirus-so-far).

From a utilitarian perspective, just covering everone's medical bills would have been the smart play on the pandemic. Am I wrong?
