So unless you have been living under a rock for the past few months, you might be aware that the Taliban have been steamrolling the Afghan government ever since the US pulled out. They now control over half the country and are gaining ground day by day.

I'd say Afghan government probably has about 1 year left.

The reality is that the "Taliban" is what the people of Afghanistan want... FOR THE MOST PART. The "Taliban" is not a completely homogenous group. It's mostly an umbrella term used to define one of only two options the people there have. Option 1 is the foreign influences and puppet leaders of the west who have very plainly brutalized and exploited the people of Afghanistan with an iron fist, while neglecting their culture and history. Option 2 is the "Taliban" which is pushing for what existed before America illegally invaded the country and overthrough the soverign government.

Based on this reality is easy to see why "The Taliban" is sweeping in so quickly. The people want to put the US occupation behind them.

EDIT: The Taliban did not spend the last 10 years conducting regular drone strikes on civilians. Killing 300 in a day, then hours later killing 100 search and rescue civilians digging through rubble, then a day later bombing the funeral of the 400 victims, killing another 100 and finally a week later killing the last 3 remaining children still living in the village.
