I am doing some renovations and cleaning up the property for a week. I offered one of my 13 year old brother-in-laws 10$ an hour to come and help. I said it could be more if he puts in some elbow grease. I see him around my MILs house and he is a completely lazy teenager so I'm not expecting much, but it could just be he is lazy around the house. Now he can't drive (obviously) and has absolutely no experience with power tools (because FIL is a deadbeat and left some time ago). He would probably need supervision with almost everything except digging holes (and I don't have holes that need digging). More importantly I would like him to come out because FIL is gone, he's got no one to teach him how to be a man and it's an opportunity to redpill him out of the shitty brainwashing the school is doing. I'm willing to take a loss and hire him for some halfassed help if it means helping out a future white man. He said he wants more than 10$ an hour. Part of me want to kick his ass out of principle. Part of me wants to politely decline and forget it. Part of me just wants to swallow my pride and the cost, it's not going to be a lot of money even at 15 or whatever (I didn't ask him how much more) and I could still help him.

Decline
Stay firm at 10
Offer 15
Kick his ass (not really an option I'm not gonna fight a 13 yo)

13 year olds are not qualified to earn $10 an hour, generally.

What you do, is you bid out the job. Don't pay hourly.

Ask yourself how much time it would take you to do A, B and C, then calculate a number.

Offering him, say, $1000, is far more appealing to a 13 year old, so long as you don't tell him he is going to work for 200 hours.

Alternatively, 13 year old boys love guns, knives and cars. The promise of guns, knives and or cars is usually enough for me to get my kids in gear.

Also, acting like "the company store," where he gets items then works them off a little is an okay idea, too.

Also, no devices. No Internet. This is the primary reason they won't do anything. Get an NES or emulators and USB controllers. If you keep the gaming to 80s games, the attention span for it dies off real quick.

So true about the games, I grew up loving NES so much, but I still spent most of my time playing outside because they just weren't that time consuming or addicting.

I’m fighting this one with my boy. Just turned 7, and loves video games. All his friends have a Nintendo switch.

I pirated some nes, snes, and n64 games that he occasionally gets to play, but it’s never enough. And despite getting him outside, or just sending him outside to play, there’s always that disappointment that he can’t just stay in and play….

You need to find something to kindle his love for the outdoors. Camping, hiking, boating, fishing, anything with the dog, and so on. Get out there and make memories, pay attention to anything he seems to spend time doing outside.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, die 3 times, game over, back to the beginning... fuck that im going outside to play in the woods.

Good tips, thanks.

Expanding upon the idea, you could offer an early completion incentive bonus.

Pffffftttttt somebody never played "Super Metroid" or "A Link to the Past"

Edit: I suppose those are 90s games. Yeah, "Pong" and "Donkey Kong" do get old fast

[–] 1 pt

Have you seen the Super Metroid/Link to the Past combo randomizer? It's a lot of fun to play once you understand the maps & logic, and even more fun to watch people race, as there's no set route so runners need to make routing decisions on the fly.

Mother fucker you're going to owe me years of my life back for this!!!!!

Tell that uppity nigger that 10 per hour is way too high, and he should be grateful. A FOB taconigger will dig holes all day for 5 bucks an hour, drink from the garden hose, and shit in the bushes.

You've just shared an amazing and entertaining life hack for people who may have had neighbors with biden signs in their yard.

"¿Where do jou want dey holes, señor?" "en todas partes, Juan, en todas partes"

[–] 0 pt

en todas partes

as if I speak taconigger

[–] 2 pts

It's mangled Latin, and as a cultured person you surely know your latin.

Sounds like my farm experience.

[–] 1 pt

Very similar to how I started out. Scraping walls on iced-over scaffolding in high winds and rain, blistering in the summer on high-rises...I knew I needed all the experience I could get, to make myself independent someday. I have worked for myself for 30 years now, and still get dirty every day. Weak lil fagoots today wanna sit in front of a screen all day, and get paid top dollar. Very fuckin sad.

I've just realized that we're talking about paying mexicans to act like dogs.

[–] 0 pt

Well, he sure as hell ain't gonna use my bathroom

[–] 1 pt

I can’t speak for the rest of the United States, but the cheap Mexican is kind of a myth now. The skilled Mexicans will be only a little bit cheaper than a skilled white, if any, and you can find a white that will work just as cheap doing yardwork as you can a Mexican. The taconiggers that hang out at the Home Depot are demanding $18-$20 an hour now.

[–] 0 pt

A taconigger that just got here will do anything, I'm not talking about finish carpenters or tilers. Most of them are peasants that can't read a tape measure.

[–] 0 pt

Actually it's $10-$15 depending on the work. $5 might apply if you drive them across the border yourself.

[–] 1 pt

The dudes that stand by Home Depot WILL work for 5 bucks an hour, if they haven't been picked up by 9am, trust me. Other things might cost a bit more..

Stay firm at $10 and tell him if he wanted to take home $10/hr at a real job, he'd have to make ~$14/hr, because taxes.

[–] 3 pts

He's never had to even think about taxes, he might not be preceptive to that line of reasoning.

[–] [deleted] 5 pts

Perhaps. Still, I think it's better to introduce him to the real world. Show him life is not public school.

[–] 5 pts

I'll give him the taxes spiel first and I'm also taking the idea to break things up into tasks. I'm writing down everything I need to do and giving it a number based on how many hours it would take me. Each number he completes gives him x*15 bucks. If I need to help him he only gets partial. Then I'll give him the option between that and hourly at 10.

[–] 7 pts

I think u should say 10 to start if your work is good I will.pay 15

[–] 7 pts

Tell him that you've got no problem paying more, but ask him what skills or experience he has that makes him worth more than $10/hour. Make him justify it, because that is a useful learning process also.

If he can't, then tell him that you're now offering a base pay of $9/hour, but will pay more if he works faster/harder.

[–] 7 pts

10 bucks cash is worth 15

[–] 6 pts

Grown men w children take home 400 a week after work and content themselves w that. Tell him to stop being a snowflake faggot

[–] [deleted] 6 pts

You offered him $10 for something he should be doing for free (helping family). He's an entitled little twat. Stay firm at $10 or tell him to GTFO.

[–] 4 pts

Spell it out for him but dont be a dick about it. He has no skills, no transportation, and no experience. $10/h cash and the opportunity to learn a trade before hes old enough to get a real job is honestly more than he has any right to ask for.

[–] 4 pts

Agree to $15 but tell him you will need to charge $2 tax for employment services, $2 tax for environmental impacts and $1 tax for his white privilege. First lesson in real life economics!

[–] 4 pts

Plus 50$ a day for room and board

[–] 4 pts

First of all, tell him $15 is on the table.

Tell him the offer is $10 because you are not sure if he can actually do the work. He is very young after all and not accustomed to real work yet. Real work requires real effort and focus. He may not have that yet and so he will take longer to get the job done.

However, if he does in fact do the work, and completes the job, in a normal amount of time, then he will then indeed be paid $15 per hour instead of $10.

[–] 1 pt

I think I like this.

You don't wanna knock the hustle. The Big Open is a good negotiating tactic.

At some point see if you can get him to watch Dead Poets Society and Fight Club with you.
