It began with censoring the hurtful speech thrown about by people that don't care about the consequence of their words.

By trying to control rather than accept, they also alienated the lunatic fringe. As the censorship grew worse, one by one the crazy, the brilliant, and the unique walked away. By the time they got to mass banning based on things as banal as politics they were already full of dumb faggots.

Anyone worth talking to went to voat, or mastadon , or /pol/.

Reddit sees this as a win, because you can't monetize the lunatic fringe, but the aspirational consumer that thinks cool can be purchased is now their main userbase.
