Aye. The whole idea is to craft a little world and drag you in, have you identify with a character and subtly bathe you with a narrative you wouldn't normally find acceptable or rational. A lot of people can't separate that from reality and eventually it becomes their reality. They do whatever - believe whatever the TV, movie, media says. You can't help but be affected by it. Same goes for internets. If it's a "safe space" someone is probably crafting a narrative and soaking people in it.
