I do believe people have cognitive dissonance. That is, they are heavily invested in the lie/illusion they've been told. They are comfortable with the lie. They want to believe. The media wraps the lie up with pretty paper and a nice bow. It is very compelling. Contrast that to the ugly truth. The Q represented a pretty lie. People wanted to believe. It was attractive and represented an illusion people desperately wanted.
Truth requires action. Most people are unwilling to stop "liking" on FakeBook long enough to act in their best interest.
