They are drones. They choose the path that looks to easiest from the start, on the assumption that the path will never become difficult and if it does.. they expect god, hope, luck, or some hero will save them. I think its herd mentality on a subconscious level, they fear going against the pack and finding out they were wrong. They think only a crazy fool would do something like that. Some of them are worse than others of course. Trump has a huge following to this day because high end of the average do sense problems on the horizon.
