Using a non-toilet fixture, that is, one where there's not a reasonable amount of water flow (more than once a day,) you can get buildup from the materials in urine. This can both lead to easier clogging, and a bad smell from the drain.
The yard is fine, however. It's what God intended.

Street-shitters approve of this.
You don't shower every day?
I do, but if you're pissing in the shower all day then you're gonna get buildup.
Nope.
Consider waterless urinals in commercial installations. These things have a drain pipe and receive hundreds of pisses per day. The urine dries into salts that accumulate and can lead to clogs. Standard procedure is to have a janitor dump a bucket of water down the urinal every so often to dissolve and wash out the salt crystals.

Piss in your shower all day and it'll smell but showering once a day will prevent it ever clogging.
