I recently went to a restaurant and looked at my bill; I'm being told that I must subsidize the wages of the kitchen staff with a 3% tax on the total bill. Then the restaurant charges a meals tax on top of this kitchen tip which is probably not authorized under state law. Interestingly enough, the kitchen staff gets 3% for things they didn't do like pour beverages.

To me, this is nothing but virtue signaling. This pisses me off. They could simply raise the menu prices 3% and then pay their staff more.

I don't eat at restaurants. I stopped eating out well before the plandemic and they can fuck right off now too. Overpriced garbage food with shit service and expecting the customer to pay the wages of their employees on top of the meal. No thanks

For how much they charge for food and drink they should be able to pay their employees. Charging 40 dollars for a 10 dollar steak and 8 dollars for a 2 dollar beer? There are markups and then there's insanity. But then you have to pay a markup on their markups to pay their employees.

You can make better food at home for 300%+ lower cost

I'll bet you $1 the restaurant is playing a game where they're not counting those "gratuities" as income - trying to create a tax free conduit for employee wages. Make sure you notify your state's tax collection authorities and the IRS that the restaurant is making these charges, and include your receipt as proof. Gather more receipts and send them too. Copy the restaurant on your complaint. If they have a general counsel, that would be the place to direct it. Otherwise look up the owner/CEO and copy him/her.

If they raise their prices, it increases the revenue on their books.If they then paid their kitchen staff more, the kitchen staff would pay more in taxes, and possibly the business, too.

Fuck restaurants. They can't grasp even the basics of pricing. Menu, prices, that's what I pay for that item. Then you figure out how to divide that money to pay employees, supplies rent, etc.

Don't pay it. Use cash. Pay the exact amount. Give the waiter/wiatress a cash tip and tell them not to document the tip. In doing so on the check make sure you write "$0.00" on the tip line.

WTF? BAck of house doesn't make tips and should be paid over minwage. Servers make less than minwage but get tips.
