You like human shit on your porch? you like passing homeless camps that are MILES long? you like $6 gas
You're describing LA, which is quite different from San Diego.

Cost of living is 2-5x more there. Is your salary in line with this? Also, ask yourself why they are looking outside the local talent pools. There's a reason they can't find people.
I love California its the garden of eden. I would NEVER live there again. The people suck. The laws suck. The prices suck. The packed roads suck.
You won't make enough to afford the difference in cost of living.
No CA sucks. Btw expect everything to be more expensive. Rent, gas, etc.
I've been to SD maybe 25 times and I can distill it down to this:
Pros: Weather. Awesome almost year round. Beach, if you like that sorta thing. Restaurants and 'downtown' nightlife. Plenty to do, especially if you're single. Sailing / boating, also if you're into that.
Cons: Beaners. Beaners every fucking where. Leftists. (See "beaners," above.) Expensive. Even the suburbs cost a shit ton because CA is an expensive place to live. Noise. The airport is small but busy, and the Naval Air Station on Coronado can also be busy.
You have well put.
There ain't enough money in the world to get me near kali. Used to be a beautiful state, but thanks to communist/dumbshit/dems, the whole fucking state needs to fall into the ocean.
San Diego is huge, so it's not really enough to go on.
Buying a house on the coast (Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar, La Jolla) or any of the "Rancho" areas, is pretty nice living. Rancho Santa Fe, Rancho La Costa... it basically means the unincorporated land that isn't assigned to a city, officially, but it patrolled by SD Sheriff.
Your job and your home also play a huge role. If you live in Carlsbad, but work downtown, half your life will be in your car. If you live in Coronado and work downtown, your drive is about 5 - 10 minutes.
The weather is perfect on the coast. That's it. If you can't afford the coast you will get very hot, in the summer. Coronado, if you can afford it, is an island/isthmus off of San Diego that is always cooler than inland and never gets under 50 degrees F. Statistically, there is no better weather in the world than Coronado... if you like perfect humidity levels and 72 degrees F.
There's a lot of variables.
It's like asking if California is a good place to move, but you're talking about Bakersfield or Fresno, or some other meth heroin shit hole, and not Malibu.
Always go for more money, is my advice. Just keep in mind, San Diego ain't cheap.
I’ve heard San Diego has the very best weather. How does the raise compare to COL? I’d figure things are only gonna get worse in Cali tho.
The last time I visited San Diego, I found it to be a pretty nice place. That was long before all the present madness we are enduring started up. The weather is great in the winter. The desert (as I call it -- rocks and a few plants) not far outside the city is about room temperature during the day. No bugs to speak of. I don't know what it's like during the summer, but I suspect is would be hot. Lots and lots of Spanish-speaking people everywhere. A few of them were sullen, but none of them attacked me. It's probably degraded a lot since I was there.
I've lived in Venice Beach for the past 10 years. It breaks my heart to see what has happened here.
First off, people love hating on California, see comments above. Sure it sucks in a lot of ways... traffic and cost of living are no joke. The government is an abomination to mankind and only getting worse. Liberals can be bat shit insance, but you can manage to not deal with them. Like most places, most people are disinterested or a-political. Having said that, I often wake up and wonder when we'll see the Chinese Flag hanging over the boardwalk. I'd still rather live here where all this crazy shit happens and be in the thick of it than in some boring ass place. But I'm probably one of the loose screws that rolled towards the west coast.
If the company is offering you good pay, realize that with cost of living it'll probably be in line with anywhere else. You might be able to negotiate higher, making it worth your while, because people are currently fleeing the state. I just got offered a job that is significantly more than I make now, but I'm considering turning it down to get out of California or at a minimum getting out of LA. I personally wouldn't move to any of the larger cities in California for all the same reasons. SD is the best of them though, so if you must move to a city, I'd say SD is the best bet.
Depends on what you're looking for too. Are you single, married, kids? If you are married and have kids, I'd stay far the fuck away from California. If you're single and can keep your cost of living low, California is a lot of fun. You meet a lot of cool people, but it can be hard to find a sense of community or real connection as most everyone isn't from here. And there are a ton of retards here. There's also a divide between natives and transplants which makes things hard as well. Also the middle class is getting wrecked, it's virtually gone here in LA. So it's this highly polarized world of extremely rich people living next to bums from all over the country. This makes it hard to find like minded people who are experiencing the same shit you might. If politics are important to you, keep that in mind.
I think it depends on what you're into too. Move to SD if you're going to live near the beach and take advantage of it by learning to surf or something. If I didn't live near the beach, there wouldn't be any reason for me to live in LA, or SD for that matter. Aside from work. Other than that, SD is tucked away pretty far south. I do a lot of camping/off roading/exploring and rarely do I find myself that far south. There is a lot of cool shit in the area, don't get me wrong, and Baja Mexico is super fun. But you don't get the California experience in my opinion. Central Coast, the sierras, Nor Cal are amazing but might as well be in a different state because it's so far from SD. I wish I lived closer to there.
Racially, So Cal is Mexico. I personally don't mind latinos, even though I wouldn't want to live in the same neighborhood as immigrants, simply due to the class/cultural differences. If you want to live somewhere that feels like the USA, California is becoming less and less like that every year.
Hopefully that gives you some insight. I could write a book on my love/hate relationship with California. Let me know if I can help.
My brother lives there. It's pretty fucking super nice. I think dealing with Mexicans and liberal democrats is worth the trade off for the scenery and weather.
