At different times throughout the last ten years I had accounts at many banks, one by one I closed, as each ceased the 'free checking'. I have ended up at two credit unions. There is good and bad. The good is that neither has ever made any attempt to max out my available funds to get hefty overdraft fee, unlike Chase. Neither reported me to Experian to try to stop me from opening an account elsewhere, like Bank of the West did. Both have free bundled checking/savings account where you have to have like $10 in the savings to keep both open...a far cry from the outrageous amount required by banks for free checking (which ain't really free if you look into the fine print). The only unusual requirement of both is that you have to have proof of residency in the area, although some credit unions are more specialized.
As for the bad, both are 'woke', and heavily courting the skunkapes. All credit unions around here are like that. Could just be the area (Commifornia, Bay Area), but I suspect most, if not all credit unions are this way.
