The "pandemic" was obviously a test on the human nature. I now am quite aware that fear is extensively used to motivate people and that most people won't question the authority as long as their comforts are provided. But, surely this is an ancient knowledge that has been used to rule over people for far longer than I have noticed. Any recommendations?

Ruling over other people requires one quality above all others -- ruthlessness. That is why the ruling class tends to have more sociopaths and psychopaths than the population at large. These people have codified their methods of maintaining control. Read The Prince by Machiavelli and Lord Chesterfield's letters to his Son. The knowledge to rule is passed from father to son, from mother to daughter.
