What I've seen among my peers, is the parents taking out a mortgage on a second home and the kids live on the property/take care of the property, while also making the mortgage payment as rent.
That's great if your parents have some money but for most people that's not an option.
You also forgot to mention that all the millennials these days want to hop around place to place without actually settling down and having kids. So they often don't want to be "tied down" to mom & dad's property. The independent mindset is actually making it harder to survive because instead of multiple generations living on one property, every young person wants to have their own apartment, etc.
Families need to start pooling together their resources more instead of everyone branching out completely on their own.
I was thinking of the SJW type of young folks when I wrote this. I dunno I'm really hating them lately.
