Serious answers please. I already know about magnus hirschfeld and the German sex institute in weimar germany. But it has to go back further than that. I do know that some pagan rituals had the men and women cross dress, but only for ceremony purposes. They didn't actually "believe" they were the opposite gender outside of it. Is it really just a modern thing from the past 100 or so years? It's hard to find historical sources on this that aren't in some way politically tainted.
